On our first visit to Bend, we had an eye exam scheduled for S at Elemental Eyecare. I mentioned in a previous post, that making medical appointments is difficult when we are living a nomadic lifestyle (see How you doin’? – After 4 Months of RV Living). I called several eye doctors in Bend, and the surrounding area, and the staff at Elemental Eyecare was hands down the most understanding. I highly recommend them if you ever require pediatric Eyecare in Bend. S was very happy to finally replace his glasses case that we lost in the Camp Fire. “The new one is even better than the one that burned up!”
Elemental Eyecare happens to be just a few doors down from The Sparrow Bakery, so we popped in for a quick, after-eye-exam treat. The chocolate pastry was delicious. I can’t remember what it was called, but it tasted like a chocolate croissant, only better!
We simply had to get a box of these gorgeous shortbread cookies for a belated Mother’s Day dessert. They were almost too pretty to eat. Almost…
I know this is so weird of me, but I really liked some of the the interior design features in the loo. I’m hoping that referring to the restroom as the “loo” makes it sound fancier… Anyways, I think these lockers used as cabinets are so cool. The owl wallpaper is whimsical & elegant at the same time. Just had to share them both.
Our 2nd trip to Bend was to get the boys haircuts at Sports Clips.
As part of B’s 5th birthday celebration we visited the High Desert Museum. What a cool museum! We really enjoy museums with both indoor and outdoor elements. This one had machinery and animals. We enjoyed our visit very much. We saw the cutest little chipmunks (our favorite rodent)! They had some clever signs reminding us not to feed the wildlife. If you read my post, Lake Siskiyou, California, you know how I feel about feeding wild animals.
Our last trip to Bend was to pick up another tasty treat at The Sparrow Bakery. This time we visited the original location, so technically we didn’t go to the exact same place twice. I got a veggie picnic sandwich with hummus, chèvre, red bell peppers, cucumber, red onion, radishes, carrots, golden beets, and balsamic vinegar on a hoagie roll. E got a non-bacon croissant sandwich with arugula, havarti cheese, avocado, aioli, and a poached egg. Needless to say, we got another box of shortbread cookies for our driving trip the next day. Any excuse for a cookie! These cookies were lemon shortbread, and they tasted as good as they look!
Last stop, was a 1 mile loop hike to Tumalo Falls, a 97-foot waterfall on Tumalo Creek. Thanks for the tip Ranger John!
