Trail Mix Hike

Hike #9 for 2025

A NV State Park, Fort Churchill, hosted a “Trail Mixer” on National trail mix day, 8/31. They provided a humongous trail mix bar with a huge variety of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and candy. After creating our own custom bags of trail mix, we went on a hike to trail test our mixes. The hike was about a mile and a half on a mostly flat trail with some trudging through sand in a riverbed and, my favorite part, hopping across strangely shaped cracked formations. The hike was at dusk and the mosquitos were in full force which was not awesome, but the rest of the experience was So fun!

When I was a kid, my sister and I used to pick all the m&m’s out of the trail mix so we had a house rule about taking a full handful and eating everything you got.

My kiddos do the same thing, so our rule is – if you open a single serve trail mix baggie, you have to eat all of it! A DIY trail mix bar meant that everyone got to eat exactly the stuff they wanted!

We hope you get to enjoy some of your favorite trail mix sometime soon!

  1. The feature photo is really outstanding! The deep cracks, the trail that makes my eye wander through the photo and catching a person walking along. Continuing on to the sunset is just a very peaceful photo. You should frame it. 🙂 The trail mixer – what an awesome idea!
