Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

We’ve been attendees at several parties over the past 2 years living in the Nevada desert and it was well past our turn to host a get-together. We have a family tradition of throwing a Mexican Fiesta in 5th grade and it was my youngest son’s turn. We decided to throw the party close to 5/5 so it was a Cinco de Mayo party to celebrate the blessings of friendship we’ve found here.

The weather forecast for the day of the party predicted rain. Our house is not large enough to accommodate all of the guests on our guest list without having “outside” as an option. We had to reschedule for a later day in May that wasn’t nearly as close to Cinco de Mayo and we lost some of our guests because they weren’t able to attend on the rescheduled day. Such a bummer. But, the show must go on as they say.

K and B made a chicken piñata out of papier-mâché and a balloon!
It turned out so cute, even if I do say so myself!

We served Haystacks as the main course. With Barb’s Favorite Salsa as a topping.

There were DIY maracas for anyone who wanted to make a party favor. Tables were spread with festive table runners and potted aloe centerpieces which the guests took home as favors.

We set up several years games: cornhole, giant Jenga, and jazzminton (forgot to take photos of those).

We set up a tissue paper flower backdrop and scored a sombrero at a thrift store for photo ops.

Happy (belated) Cinco de Mayo friends!

    1. Yes, the pattern on those is sort of Incan/Mayan inspired… so I suppose they kind of count for Mexican fiesta attire! 😂
Some of our friends surprised him with a cake for his birthday. It was so sweet of them! 😁
