Christmas Tree 2023

We themed the tree this year with blue and gold. My youngest son (age 9) wanted a “classic” tree this year. We had a family debate over how to decorate it and which ornaments to use. I ended up making the final decision with my “mom ultimate discretion and veto power”.

Ours is an artificial pre-lit tree. I bought all the ornaments from Target.com, we found the tree skirt at TJ Maxx, the wrapping paper and gift ribbon is from Costco.

Here are our favorite books about Christmas trees:

  1. Your tree is very pretty!

I bought my second pre-lit tree this year, a “pencil tree” from Amazon. I’m liking that it is lightweight enough for me to manage it by myself. My first such tree was a beautiful specimen from WalMart but it was not easy to set up, being large and heavy. This one is called a pop-up tree. It doesn’t look as nice as the other, but it is good for this stage in my life. It was easy to decorate, having much less surface area, and I just used my Most Favoritest ornaments.

  2. It’s SO good to see you, my friend. Your tree is beautiful! I love Eve Bunting Night Tree too 🎄. I put up my tree before I left for my life changing surgery at the National Cancer Institute. It’s been 7 weeks. A slow recovery and healing and I’ll start treatments again next month! My tree is filled with ornaments either made by the boys, grandkids and I, gifts from students over the years (and even 3 crocheted from my 4th grade teacher). It has a wooden lit star, pre-lit, and a hodge podge of love. I’m so happy to celebrate the birth of our Savior and be home! And again, so good to see you and know you are all well! Blessings!💚🎄

    1. I am so glad to hear that your surgery went well and that are you recovering. Recovery takes time.
Your tree sounds like a wonderful space to hold decades of memories! That is my daughter’s preferred tree decorating method. She got out voted this year, but we have done it that way previously. Merry Christmas sweet friend! 🎄

  3. Your tree is gorgeous! Looks like it belongs in a catalog 🙂 We have a lovely Noble fir (I still haven’t given in to the fake trees) and our tree is pretty much all ornaments the kids have made in the last 5 years…so it looks rather whimsical.

I haven’t read the Tree that loved Trains or the Night Tree yet. Those look fun. The three trees and Why Christmas Trees aren’t Perfect are definitely 2 of my favorites.

    1. Thanks! Full of fun, interesting, handmade and whimsical ornaments is K’s preferred method of tree decor. It was also my younger sister’s (& it was how we always decorated the tree when I was growing up). This year, since B asked for it, I finally got to try doing it a different way! 🎄😁

  4. Your tree is magnificent!! I can’t believe you guys use a theme. We just decorate our tree with ornaments from past years and add a few new ones. Kids pick out one special orna8 to get each Christmas. I like your “mom ultimate discretion and veto power.” Using that power gets the ball rolling sometimes and helps with final decision making.

    1. Thanks. This is the first year I’ve ever done a themed tree!
Full of ornaments we’ve collected over the years, is K’s preferred method of tree decor. It was also my younger sister’s (& it was how we always decorated the tree when I was growing up). This year, since B asked for it, I finally got to try doing it a different way! 🎄😁 Our kiddos get a new ornament every year in their stockings. A tradition my parents had when my sister and I were growing up. Since the fire, I’ve gotten a new ornament for my mom every year too. Before my parents lost their home in the fire, she used to have a magnificent collection of angel ornaments and could decorate a whole tree full of angels. 🎄❤️

      1. That’s a fun tradition to get a new ornament in the stocking each year!! You did a great job of incorporating the color theme into your tree. Wow, that’s a lot of work! Thinking about a task like that makes me lightheaded.
I’m so glad your mother gets new ornament each year too. That’s thoughtful of you. I can’t imagine what you and your parents went through in losing your homes in the fire. I applaud your resiliency and faith!!

  5. I love the way yourChristmas tree turned out this year. It is beautiful. The kids will remember this year for the unique way you decided to do the tree decorating. I bet the kids had a fun time helping with the decorating. Merry Christmas.

  6. We also have a pre-lit artificial tree. We downsized to a 4.5 ft tree several years ago. Other than a topper, this year’s tree has no ornaments on it. Our kitten is a kleptomaniac; left unsupervised with the tree, I’d never see any of my ornaments again. (I still haven’t found most of my refrigerator magnets.) Have you ever heard the song about Alfie the Christmas tree by John Denver and the Muppets?
