Multnomah – Wahkeena Falls Loop – Columbia River Gorge. OR

Our last sightseeing activity while visiting Portland, OR was a 5-mile hike with brand new friends. My husband met J & B at The Bible Project conference and learned that they are fellow homeschoolers who had brought their kiddos to Portland with them. The S family have 3 children ages 7-12 and we all hit it off amazingly well! Our daughters even have the same birthday, exactly one year apart! Unfortunately, they live in New Hampshire, otherwise we would be getting together with them frequently. We started at the Multnomah falls visitor center at around 11am and got back to the parking lot at about 3:30pm. The hike through the misty forest took us past several waterfalls. It was a beautiful hike, and we marveled at our Creator’s magnificent handiwork. This last activity is “unique to the area” and “outdoors/nature” on our itinerary.

I don’t remember all the hikes that I’ve ever been on, but this ranks up there as one of the longest. It was also one of the most beautiful! I’m a reluctant hiker (and that’s putting it nicely). I’m always relieved when we can go hiking with friends because it puts everyone (including me) on their best behavior. Nothing like a little positive peer pressure to motivate oneself!

I hope this post (the final in our road trip to Portland, OR series) inspires you to try something that you feel reluctant about! Invite a friend to join you, it might be fun!

Our new friends had recently read this book too, so I’m going to go ahead recommend it again!

🏞️ What’s the longest hike you’ve ever done?

  2. Beautiful! Um, longest hike I’ve ever done…we did a multi-day backpacking trip once when I was a teen…I may have had a mild meltdown in the middle but…couldn’t exactly just quit in the middle of the wilderness so I pulled it together eventually and carried on.

  3. This is a fabulous hike and all the beautiful sights you saw and experienced!! The bridge, the fungi, and the gigantic leaf are unique and not something you can experience elsewhere.
Thanks for recommending the book! I was looking for a new book for Elliot to read. He’s my reluctant reader and our (me and our ES) goal this semester was to get him to read more and start a reading log. It’s actually going well!! Timing is important to wait for our kids. Hard for me to accept at times.

      1. It’s a work in progress, but he’s slowly making progress. I don’t ask him to do any book reports or anything…the goal is to read and to feel some accomplishment by finishing a book.
In the struggle together as mamas!! I love how you do read alouds with them. When I do that, I want to sleep. lol weird reaction.
