When I found out that a nearby symphony was performing a live musical score to the movie, “The Snowman”. It took away a bit of the sting of not finding any nearby performances of “The Nutcracker”, which has been an annual tradition for our family to attend the past 9 years or so. I decided to get tickets and opted for general admission at $15/seat.
Then I found a used copy of the book for $2 at an upscale thrift store so I knew we needed to do a unit study for this title!
Book: The Snowman by Raymond Briggs
Craft: I found wooden snowman-shaped ornaments and boxes at the Dollar Tree for the kids to paint.

Activity: Watch the movies, “The Snowman”, and “The Snowman and the Snow Dog”
Snowman / Snowdog Double Feature
Obvi, this would be a great time to build a snowman if you can! We built one several weeks ago, when we had more snow.

Recipe: TBD – there are lots of snowman recipes online; I just can’t seem to decide on one…
Outing: We’re planning on attending a nearby symphony performance of “The Snowman”. I found 3 kids-sized fleece scarves at the Dollar Tree and it just seemed meant to be! The scarf is kind of a big deal in the movie. I don’t want to spoil it, but if you’ve seen it you might remember… anyways, I’m planning to present my kiddos each with a scarf as we’re headed out the door to attend the symphony. If you wanted to, you could buy some fleece at a fabric store and make simple scarves as a craft activity to go with book/movie!

🎄 Merry Christmas friends! And for those who homeschool, happy Christmas-schooling!
🎄 P.S. I updated Christmas School #1 – Mr. Willoby’s Christmas Tree with photos if you want to check it out!
Looks like a fun unit study! Enjoy!

I’m afraid we would have totally embarrassed you! We were asked to leave for not wearing masks. 🤷🏻♀️
