Christmas School – Mr. Willoby’s Christmas Tree 🎄

For Christmas 2020, I bought my kiddos a copy of Mr. Willoughby’s Christmas Tree by Robert Barry. We were just delighted with the story and it’s going to be my first “Christmas School” post this year.

In our homeschool, “Christmas School”, is combining a Christmas-themed book with a recipe, a craft activity, a field trip idea, an outreach idea, and other learning opportunities that tie into the story.

Book: Mr. Willoby’s Christmas Tree by Robert Barry

Recipe: Pull-Apart Christmas Tree at www.delish.com

Because none of my children enjoy melted cheese, we made the recipe without cheese. Without cheese, it was still delish!

Craft: Scrap Ribbon Christmas Tree Ornament by firefliesandmudpies.com

or this https://Cinnamon Stick Christmas Tree Ornament by crayonsandcravings.com

My 9-year-old daughter looked at the links above and decided on the last one, Cinnamon Stick Christmas Tree Ornaments.

Activity: decorate your Christmas tree

potted tree from Walmart $10 and decorations from Dollar Tree $5

Field Trip: visit a Christmas tree farm or go for a hike in an evergreen forest. We ended up visiting a local “Festival of Trees” fundraiser. It was fun to see the creative ideas used to decorate the themed trees.

Outreach: donate gently used clothing, books, toys, and household items to a local charity

Other schooly things to consider researching or discussing as you read the story.

Science: reduce, reuse, recycle

Social Studies/Occupations: housekeeper, gardener

Music: learn to sing or play “O Christmas Tree” with an instrument

🎄 Happy Christmas-schooling friends!
