(almost) Wordless Wednesday

I am not sure what the scientific name for these are, we call them “pokey ball things“. They are seeds that fall from trees.

  1. Those are fruit from sweetgum trees (Liquidambar styraciflua) that are native to the Southeast U.S. but planted as ornamentals all over. Historically, the trees were tapped to make something similar to maple syrup.

      My youngest (age 6) keeps saying he wants to tap the tree to make syrup and I keep saying, it’s not that kind of tree. Oof. Guess he was right!
