“Thank you” to fellow blogger, Scott (PhD in Forestry) from Raven About the Parks for identifying these “pokey balls” or “sputniks” as fruit from the American sweetgum tree in my Wordless Wednesday post a few weeks ago. We recently found some green ones on a walk around the neighborhood.
I am not sure what the scientific name for these are, we call them “pokey ball things“. They are seeds that fall from trees.
My guest photographer for this post is my younger sister. This is part of her new rose garden. She recently planted 22 rose bushes in front of her house. Unfortunately, a passerby stole these ones the day after she took the photo. It appears as though she may be unintentionally providing a community service... 🌹
