LEGO Exhibit by Sean Kenney

Our family likes celebrating holidays: major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, 4th of July), biblical feasts (Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Purim), holidays from cultures that we did not originate from (Lunar New Year, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo), and obscure national days (Earth Day, National Gingerbread House Day, National Donut Day, Mario Day, Star Wars Day, Siblings Day).

For National Siblings Day I attempted to take my tween/teens to see a temporary LEGO exhibit. We’re all huge LEGO fans in our house! That was a nice idea. Unfortunately, when we arrived there were 6 school buses out front and the parking lot was completely full – so I changed my mind.

Waste of time ✅

Waste of fuel ✅

Still not worth going in with 300+ school children present ✅

We tried again a few weeks later and this time we went on a weekend – no field trips! I’d honestly rather go on a crowded weekend with a bunch of other families than go with public school field trips. Luckily, it really wasn’t very crowded at all when we visited.

Do you see the egg with the little feet at the end?
This was my favorite piece because of the social commentary.

If you ever have an opportunity to see a LEGO art exhibit, I highly recommend it. It’s amazing what people can do with LEGO bricks. Seeing art like this stretches the mind and imagination to encompass more of what’s possible for one’s own life/problems/circumstances.

our favorite LEGO themed books to tie in with this field trip
our favorite LEGO themed movies too

Have you ever seen LEGO art or art using another unique medium?

    1. I’m anticipating that some of my offspring are very unlikely to ever grow out of LEGO! There was some discussion between me and my husband as to whether or not the exhibit would be “too young” for us. It was not. ❤️ LEGO

  1. Wow, those are just incredible! Sometimes the local mall will host Lego competitions for kids and highschool students (they divide it up into different age categories). Last time we saw the displays, we saw a really cool castle someone built. Another student did a whole pirate ship.

  2. My favorite exhibit is the peacock. Is the back drop made of Legos too? Do they make Legos with rounded corners? The shape of the peacock feathers look smoothly curved.

  3. I love this post! I have never been to a LEGO art exhibit, but I would like to go. As long as there aren’t tour buses of children there! Your favorite piece is mine, too. Do you think young people know about “The Thinker”? If not, they may not get the social commentary! Another blogger I follow builds those LEGO kits of miniature houses. Right now, he is posting about building a car garage – made from LEGOs. Thanks for your post and including all those photographs. I enjoyed looking at them!

  4. You took the words out of my head…it is amazing what people can do with lego bricks! You found a real treasure to visit! Have you been to Legoland in Carlsbad, CA?
