Ryan Ranch Disc Golf Course – Hike

Our trip to the Monterey Peninsula included a morning spent at Ryan Ranch Disc Golf Course. We played 9 holes with 7 people. We divided ourselves into two teams and played a scramble. In a scramble, each player takes a turn throwing their disc and congratulates the person on their team who threw the best shot. Then everyone on the team gets to throw their next disc from that best point. Play continues in this way until a player from each team gets a disc into the basket/hole.

I’m also counting this as hike #11 for 2025 because we walked for about 2.5 miles!

While we were playing disc golf the Canadian Snowbirds (like the US Blue Angels) flew directly over our heads practicing flying formations. So cool! Apparently, they are here for Fleet Week because the Blue Angels are currently grounded due to Federal budget cuts.

After lunch at The Wild Plum Cafe in downtown Monterey, we headed to the Monarch Sanctuary in Pacific Grove. We were about a month early for the peak monarch butterfly migration. We only saw three early ones.

🩶 We hope you get to enjoy a round of disc golf or see some cool airplanes with someone you love sometime soon!

  1. We recently found some wooly black and brown caterpillars in the gardens here where I live. They will become Isabella Tiger Moths. Although I’m not fond of the destruction moths can do, I think they are some beautiful ones as well.
