After posting a Christmas related project this week, I felt compelled to bring us back to the current season – Autumn!

We were inspired by these art projects:
Art Is What I Teach – Scarecrow Texture Collage
Iβll admit that this art project is probably way too young for my kiddos, but I liked the idea of making a flat scarecrow as a seasonal project. My husband and I recently painted his home office and put up some cool kidβs art frames that fit regular 8.5 x 11 paper, and open easily to allow switching the art frequently.
My goal is to assign the kiddos an art project every month or so for this rotating wall gallery.

Hereβs how we made our scarecrows: First, we used a sponge and white acrylic paint on gray card stock to make a moon for the background.
Next, we used crayon on plain white paper overtop of a textured tray to make the textured looking shirt pieces.
We made little paper hats from old magazine pages. We used yarn for the hair and hands. The faces are made from paper grocery bags, and we used markers to draw on the mouths. The neck is a popsicle stick.
We followed a drawing tutorial to draw the crows/ravens on separate paper, and then we cut them out to glue on top of the paper hats.
Finally, we added black feathers, wheat stalks, and buttons for the finishing touches.
We enjoyed these picture books featuring scarecrows:

π We hope you are enjoying the autumn season!
π What are some of your favorite autumn traditions/activities?
These are beautiful! I love the rotating art idea. It reminds me of an art project I did a long time ago with my 4 year daughter and my grandmother who was in her nineties. We pulled a hanger into a diamond shape, pulled a pantyhose over the hanger. Then we added fabric cutouts for a hat, eyes, nose, and mouth. I still have these. I am sure this artwork made by your children will be a treasured keepsake as well.

Thanks Betty! It was really fun to make scarecrows. Iβve had the supplies for a couple years and just kept forgetting about it. It feels great to have finally finished it. π§‘
Your scarecrow art sounds really fun too!
