The answer to the quiz in my previous post appears to be…
g) there was never a fridge and I’m losing my mind
Did anyone else see the fridge in the previous post’s feature photo? Unfortunately, that photo was taken while we still had other personal items in the garage. Unfortunately, the property managers did not take move-in photos during the alleged move-in inspection before the tenants moved in.
The property manager has offered $500 to compensate for the missing fridge. To that end, I guess I’m not totally crazy, as they can also see the fridge in the photo, but without move-in photos they can’t prove it.
The fridge would cost $1800 to replace in-kind with a similar fridge from Home Depot. It wasn’t worth that much because it was used and several years old. So the cost to replace it is more than what is was worth. Also, it was an “extra” fridge in the garage which is different than taking the main fridge out of the kitchen.
Lesson: if ever you find yourself unable to sell a house and you’re considering renting it as an option – don’t.
Quiz:
We should feel…
a) Happy and satisfied with the $500 offer
b) Sad because the tenants are not being honest
c) Mad because the proper managers didn’t do a good job
d) Unsettled by this strange and almost unbelievable story
e) Grateful that we get to deal with this problem instead of something worse – it could always be worse!
f) Altruistic with our (unintentional) “donation” of a fridge to someone who possibly needed it more than we do
May all of your refrigerators/freezers/large appliances remain exactly where you left them last. ❤️ heavenstobetty
Didn’t you have an inventory?

Apparently, the property managers didn’t do the move in inspection like they said they were going to. We assumed that they had done it. Hindsight being 20/20, we should’ve done one ourselves or asked for a copy to confirm that it had been done.

Well, I suppose we shouldn’t be angry about all of this. We aren’t supposed to be angry or anxious over nothing and in everything, but by prayer and supplication, humbly, giving thanks, let your petitions be known to Him.. Philippians 4:6-7 ( my paraphrased version) So, that being said, the $500 is unexpected. I’m thinking that the management knows he messed up. Take it and find a different company to sell it or manage it. (idk but just thinking out loud.🤓

It is one of the craziest stories ever! Maybe quiz answer is “a little bit of all the above.”

Take the $500 and consider it a lesson learned. Last year, when we traveled so much, many suggested that we rent out our house. We have always said no, but, at times, we did think about how much rent money we could get. This story confirms our gut feeling not to rent, and we never will. Thank you for sharing.

Ugh. This makes me glad I’m renting to family, even though I’m over that.

Oof! I’m sorry about the fridge being taken in the first place, Jen.

Thanks. There are worse things. That was pretty annoying though!
