Picacho Peak State Park & Saguaro National Park – Arizona

Picacho Peak State Park, Arizona was our furthest destination from home and marks the Midway Point of our road trip. We arrived in the evening with just enough daylight to set up the trailer and eat dinner.

On a return trip from the restrooms, we noticed that our neighbors had a nice telescope and inquired about the night sky. They generously invited us to look through their telescope. It turned out that the gentleman is an astronomy professor at a nearby university. We saw craters on the moon and Jupiter with its 4 moons!

The next morning we visited parents/ grandparents who live nearby. We were delighted to meet their sweet regular waitresses when we went out for a nice breakfast together. We enjoyed great food and excellent service! We got to catch up some more at a local park after breakfast. We exchanged stories about our respective pet cats and reminisced about good times. They gave us a super nice cat tree/mansion/castle and cat treats for our cats back home!

The kiddos had a great time assembling this giant cat playground!

They also gave us some fun Easter goodies, and some beautiful vintage teacups for our Wednesday Tea and Poetry (I’ll post photos of those in another post).

In the afternoon, we visited Saguaro National Park.

Unfortunately, our timing for this National Park wasn’t great. It was too hot to hike very much. It was probably better to hike there a month ago! We enjoyed the saguaro forest from the car, we watched a short video in the visitor center, and we did a very short stroll, Javelina Wash Trail, around the visitor center.

The sunset back at our campsite was wonderful and we had to start heading back towards home the next morning!

Picacho peak has a hike to the summit that sounds like lots of fun. Next time, we’re going to plan enough time to fit it in!
