The northern California coastline is stunning. The weather is more temperate than some other locations, only changing about 10 degrees from the low temperature to the high temperature. Our November visit had temps in the 50s. We were a group of two families and we stayed at sites 93 & 94. The spaces to fit the vehicles at the sites were very, very small and 93 was really difficult to back a trailer into. We ended up parking the smaller of the two trailers diagonally in 93 and the slightly longer trailer, the truck, and the SUV in site 94. Once everything was parked, the two sites together were amazing! A perfect area for a group of two families.

Here are some books we recommend to accompany a trip to the beach:
Ocean Anatomy: The Curious Parts & Pieces of the World under the Sea
Science Comics Boxed Set: Coral Reefs, Sharks, and Whales
Humphrey the Lost Whale: A True Story
We also read A Whale of the Wild (A Voice of the Wilderness Novel) but I’m not wholly convinced that I should recommend it. It was a bit too heavy/dark and it had a really strong environmental/conservation agenda. While either of these are fine in moderation, I felt they were both major themes throughout the book. I’m not a fan of babies dying as a main theme, regardless of the species. I’m also not a fan of all the humans being evil bad guys destroying all natural resources. The author seemed to use bioegalitarianism (elevates animals and devalues humans) in her portrayal of the whales and humans in the book. It really could’ve used a bit more balance.
This trip had been planned 6 months in advance and coincidentally we headed out the day that my cousin died. I’m afraid that I was not the best company. I tried to maintain some semblance of poise, and figured that I would just have to grieve at a later date. But my heart wasn’t really present, and I didn’t really want to be there camping. I hope that my children enjoyed the trip despite my lack of enthusiasm.
You took beautiful photos of the California Coastline. It is a very pretty place to visit.

The place where you camped looks beautiful. I’m sorry about your cousin. It sounds like you did the best you could. I hope you were able to take a moment for yourself in such a beautiful place and connect with nature and your faith and find just a couple seconds of peace. It is so hard to lose someone we love. It seems to me you set a good example for your kids.

The setup of the campsite was cozy for 2 families! It looks like a beautiful beach but the water very rough. I hope those patrollers don’t need to do any rescues this coming winter.
Friend, what a hard trip it must’ve been and your cousin died. I’m sorry for your loss. And if your enthusiasm was low, that’s totally understandable. You are a great mama!!
