Lake Siskiyou, California 2023

We took the Lance for its maiden voyage to Lake Siskiyou, California in September 2023. This is one of our favorite places on the planet.

I unintentionally paired this trip with the book A Wolf Called Wander (A Voice of the Wilderness Novel) by Rosanne Parry. I didn’t know that the book was partially set in the very forest we were visiting. We really enjoyed the book and we definitely recommend it, especially if you read it before, during, or after an outdoor adventure.

me in my new Rx glasses
new photo op bench on the beach
buoys, beach and Mt. Shasta
lakeshore photo by B (age 9)
it seems that this dead stump turned itself into a natural planter
found a frog by the waters edge
my husband taught our 13-year-old son how to split logs
each of the children can build a camp fire unassisted
found this little guy by the fire pit
flying camp fire ember melted a hole in my favorite yoga pants – boo; 😒 also cut myself with B’s Swiss Army pocket knife; also scratched up my hand foraging wild blackberries

We hadn’t been glamping in a long time. It took 2 nights of terrible “going to bed times” to finally get all the children settled and sleeping peacefully by night number 3. Whew 😰 We were “this close” to leaving early, the first 2 nights were So Rough.

We found some things that need repair in the Lance.

  • the boys broke the dinette light roughhousing 🤦🏻‍♀️
  • one of the speakers is going out and makes a very crackling sound
  • the plastic on the vinyl facing under the dinette has adhered to it, and when we tried to remove the protective plastic we were tearing the vinyl 🤦🏻‍♀️
  • something is leaking underneath 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
  • the queen mattress is really uncomfortable
  • we could use some strategically placed command hooks to hang jackets and towels
  • the toilet paper holder keeps falling out of the wall
  • the handle on the sink faucet fell off

Luckily, my husband is very handy and he can fix everything easily, except for the 🤦🏻‍♀️ items which will require more research and effort.

Wish us luck with our repairs before our next glamping trip in November!

  2. Your pictures are great. The campground looks so beautiful. I love the natural planter and the look of concentration on your son’s face as he builds the jenga tower. That’s a young boy turning into a man splitting those logs. Good luck with all the repairs. We figured out how to fix lots of things the five years we had our Micro Lite. Some jobs we did better than others. My favorite place on earth is Pentwater, Michigan, but there are lots of runner ups!

      1. July or August are the best months. Mears State Park reservations need to be made six months out – to the second! We are always there the last two full weeks of July – God willing! People also really love Ludington State Park.

  3. I really like your new Rx sunglasses and glasses! Looks good. I envy rx sunglasses, because it’s difficult to wear with my astigmatism. I have a pair but the frames are too big. Lol
Great camping adventures! You guys really know how to camp, and the kids look like they’re having fun and learning new skills.

  4. I’ve walked around the lake several times with my daughter but never camped there. Your expedition sounds like a great family time, which in our experience always adds to the treasury of stories to tell over the generations, whether they were pleasant at the time or not. The surprises and sufferings often make the best stories, right? After they have passed into the past….

  5. One of my favorite places is Amicalola Falls State Park in the north Georgia mountains. It’s always something with travel trailers. One of the worst was when the kitchen sink fell out.🤦‍♀️ Currently, the sparker that ignites the burners and pilot light on the oven/stove doesn’t work; we just use a lighter instead. Like you, my hubby is handy, so he has done most repairs himself.
