Lake of the Springs (Thousand Trails) – Oregon House, California

Our monthly camping trip took us to a Thousand Trails spot we hadn’t been to before. Unfortunately, everything was closed due to COVID. Fires weren’t allowed and hanging up hammocks was against the rules too. Hmmm 🤔 The water faucet was missing from the faucet handle at our site but my husband had brought his tools and used pliers to turn on/off the water.

We had fun riding bikes around the campground. We were really glad we decided to bring our bikes!

We also decided to take a little side trip to nearby Collins lake and rent kayaks. We ended up renting 2 double kayaks and one single kayak. The kids are getting bigger and it’s hard to fit 3 of us on one double kayak anymore. We had heard great reviews about the ice cream at Collins Lake so we had to try that after kayaking. I recommend the Java-chip milkshake.

We headed down to the lakeshore at Lake of the Springs and relaxed or played in the water until we’d had enough sun.

The kids played with their camping monster trucks and made us a few RV potholders while we were hanging out at the campsite.

Overall, Lake of the Springs appeared to be a fairly well-maintained Thousand Trails campground. The campsites were nice, and we saw several deer and chipmunks. It would probably be more fun once they open the amenities like boat/kayak rental, the children’s playground, the pool, the mini golf, the lodge, etc., etc. Literally everything was closed during our visit.

One of the highlights of the trip was my daughter’s (8-years-old) idea to top a Hershey’s Kiss Peanut Butter Blossom cookie with a toasted marshmallow. Yum yum yum! I didn’t get a very good photo but I’m sure we will make them again and I will post them once I get a nice picture.

🏕 Where is your favorite camping spot?

🏕 Do you have any camping trips planned this summer?

    1. Thank you. 😊
My photo secret is taking a lot of photos and then only posting the best ones. I read somewhere that professional photographers figure 1 out of 8 photos will be worth keeping. So for every one photo that makes it in my blog post there are probably 10+ that didn’t turn out as good.

  2. It sounds like you made the best of it, and everyone had a good time! The picture of the wildflower is beautiful! Do you know the name of it? We have 8 camping trips (plus one other ) planned for 2021. We are on trip #2. At least, that is what is planned. The kayaks looks really fun, too.

    1. According to my plant identification app the wildflower is a Shooting Star. I’ll add that info to the photo caption. Thanks for asking!
Happy Camping season friend! I look forward to reading about your travels. 😊
