Our recent trip to Yosemite was very special because we were able to meet up with some fellow displaced Camp Fire survivors. It was so wonderful to see our friends again! We had a wonderful time with them on a hike to Lower Yosemite falls and talked non-stop the entire afternoon. We still miss our friends and community very much.
Both of our families are lucky to have 4th graders, we both got the Every Kid Outdoors Pass. If you’ve got a 4th grader, he/she can get a pass for the school year and get into any National Park free! Woo hoo!
We started at the visitor center and looked around at the displays.

Per the recommendation of the ranger we spoke with, we decided to take a paved path to lower Yosemite Falls. From the visitor center, we walked about 4 miles there and back to the parking lot.

I’m not sure who in our group was the first one to spot the photo op below but the mist covered the upper mountain peak within a minute and the shot was gone.

We ended our hike with a visit to the penny smooshing machine. This was extra fun because our friends hadn’t done one before. Smooshed pennies make excellent and very economical keepsakes!
We had such a great time on this hike with our friends! Both of our families have done a bit of hiking in the past and things just fell together really well without too much thought or planning. Thank you Jesus! I probably should’ve done a better job planning with my friend beforehand but luckily it just worked out! My next post will outline tips we’ve stumbled upon for coordinating a family hike with friends. Until then, happy outdoor exploring everyone!
