My youngest son requested camping with friends for his 11th birthday. Cheers to camping season 2025! And by “camping” I mean “glamping in our Lance travel trailer”. We spent the weekend at Collins Lake in California.

The weather was perfect and the children had so much fun using inflatable kayaks on the lake with their friends.

The campground was super crowded which was unexpected before Memorial Day weekend. But our neighbors were courteous and we were only woken up by a car alarm once and barking dogs a handful of times.

We even had time to play at a disc golf course on someone’s personal property nearby…

… And visit a Goodwill for some homeschool supplies!

My youngest got poison oak at the disc golf course. After decades of dealing with poison oak rashes myself – my treatment of choice is a liberal application of Desitin diaper rash cream covered by a homemade “sock bandage” which is a men’s athletic sock with the foot cut off. I have several “sock bandages” I keep at home and there’s a tube of Desitin in the RV. The Desitin dries out the rash better than anything else I’ve tried and the sock keeps the rash covered and helps keep it from spreading.

Happy Camping Season friends!
Do you have any trips planned this month?
Do you know of a better treatment for poison oak?
Have you found any treasures at a thrift store lately?
Calamine is the only thing I’ve ever used. I rather like your curative idea. Calamine is not very thick but Desitin works for rashes and seems to “stick” to the problem longer while healing.

That looks so fun! 🙂 I got some good books last week from a second hand shop. And two teddy bears today.

Sounds like a fun weekend – in spite of the poison oak. Good solution for the poison oak. I really enjoyed thrifting at the stores on Marco Island. I generally got clothes there. We may be camping soon in Greenville, MO. We always ride our ebikes to the 2nd hand store there. Maybe I will find some good treasures like you did! I like the painting project purchase. And, of course, the books!

I thought of you and your family crafting/painting nights when you all get together when I saw the nutcrackers. It’ll be a fun project for Christmas time!
My oldest son got a t-shirt from Fort Bragg and a J.Crew flannel but I was washing them when I took the photos for the post. He finds great clothes at Goodwill!

Yes! I was grateful for the trailer walls when I saw how crowded it was. The trailer helps muffle the noise a bit.

Happy belated birthday!!
My latest thrift store find was an $8 cardigan in a tomato red color by Boden.

We’ll try the Desitin treatment the next time my hubby gets into poison ivy. He has tried all sorts of lotions and creams with limited effect.

I hope it works for him!
