Oxbow Nature Study Area – Hike

Hike #5 for 2025

This was a co-op led hike. I’m thrilled that we’re currently on track for “at least one hike per month” per my 2025 New Year’s resolutions! It definitely helps that a lovely mama from co-op is leading a hiking group. I’m on a texting basis with her so maybe we can join up with them during the summer too.

Sidebar: We’ve stopped attending the co-op classes because I can do the curriculum myself at home and the location is an hour drive. It got to be too much driving to continue attending. But we’re still going on the monthly hikes when we can. I’m not planning on joining the co-op next school year, but maybe I can find or start up another hiking group.

Back to the hike – more of a short walk. We walked along a 0.8 mile loop part of which was next to the Truckee River. It was a flat, well-marked trail of hard packed dirt.

It was extremely windy and the wind made it feel chillier than we had anticipated. We saw a cool bird’s nest, the kiddos found some snake grass to play with, and we ate our picnic lunch in a beautiful picnic area which would have been delightful if it hadn’t been so very windy!

We’re spoiled hikers – we’ve been on some epic hikes and the con to that is sometimes we’re underwhelmed. We also live out in nature, we see lots of wildlife in our own backyard. Again, we’re very fortunate and that can have the consequence of not being easily impressed. C’est la vie.

After the hike we ran some errands and found some unique produce at Grocery Outlet.

🥾 We hope you get to go for a hike sometime soon, and that your hike exceeds all your expectations!
