The Family Under the Bridge

I have a terrible head cold: sore throat, cough, runny nose, headache, and my ears hurt. I’m stocked up on Kleenex, cough drops, Gatorade, ramen, ibuprofen and NyQuil. I’m grateful for a comfy couch and cozy blankets and mugs of warm beverages and a box of Christmas themed DVDs.

I’ve canceled 4 fun Christmassy events this week and rescheduled my dentist appointment due to the illness slowly making its way through our family members. The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry is not optional this week – it’s necessary!

I’m really enjoying our current read-aloud book, “The Family Under the Bridge” by Natalie Savage Carlson, illustrated by Garth Williams (one of my fave illustrators).

I’ve been inspired by this blog:

We’re doing a Christmas unit study: Gather ‘Round – An Old Fashioned Christmas. But, on 2nd thought… the workbooks were striking me a bit cumbersome. I decided to go rouge. Instead of the workbooks, we’re doing commonplace journaling. I printed little pictures of the books we’re reading with the unit study, got out the scented glue sticks, colorful pens, and Christmas stickers. The kiddos and I sat around the table and copied out our favorite quotes from the assigned passages.

I hope you’re having a cozy start to December sans any cold/flu sxs!

  1. Oh no, I’m so sorry you are feeling this sick! It’s awful to get sick and then to cancel fun events and some necessary appointments. ugh. But that’s a great decision to make to recover first and regain your strength.
Love your spontaneous journaling. I wish we could join you guys around that table and do our own copying of favorite quotes. That’s cozy and memorable homeschooling times right there!
Feel better soon and hope the cold doesn’t last too long in the family.

    1. Thanks! I feel much better today. On the upswing for sure. 👍
It would be so fun to get together for stories, tea, journals and cookies! But we’d probably just spend the whole time chit-chatting and never get around to any schooling! ❤️😁
