At $139/night this is one of the most expensive RV resorts we’ve stayed at. But, to us, it’s so worth it! We absolutely love the Monterey Peninsula! It’s one of my favorite places on the planet. This RV Resort is run by Thousand Trails, so the price is high to entice people to buy a membership. We did not buy a membership. The pricing system is kind of complicated and we’d have to stay at this resort for a week every year to break even. I don’t want to feel like I have to camp here every year – I have CMCP (camping membership commitment phobia). We stayed 3 nights with two days of adventuring in between.

The day we arrived we walked to the beach at Marina Dunes, ate dinner at Hula’s Island Grill and showed the kiddos our engagement proposal spot and our first apartment.

After the beach, we headed to Hula’s Island Grill in Monterey.
The coolest thing on their menu is fried plantains and I really wanted our kiddos to try them. They didn’t really like them – but at least they tried them! Hula’s also had “brown sugar lemonade” on the menu and we had to give that a try too. The kiddos favorite food items were the regular fries and sweet potato fries. I got spicy tofu tacos that were pretty tasty.

My husband proposed at a beach near John Denver Point in Pacific Grove just south of Monterey.
On this day, we found hermit crabs in some tide pools.

Next morning we stopped at Sweet Elena’s Artisan Bakery & Cafe for coffee and Olallieberry tarts. If you are ever near the Monterey Peninsula, you would be remiss not to stop at Elena’s in Sand City for an Olallieberry tart.

And we headed off to Gilroy Gardens…
Wow 17 years ago…
Oh those tarts look delicious.

Such a beautiful place! And one with heartfelt memories. I never heard of an olallieberry tart, but it looks good! Every so often we’ll stay somewhere that costs more than the average. In my mind, it all balances out because we also stay at other places (generally COE campgrounds) which are low cost. We wouldn’t join a camping membership either. Looking forward to your next post!

Monterey area is gorgeous! Your husband proposed at a beautiful place. Ah, the brown sugar lemonade. Did you figure out the balance of brown sugar and lemonade? It sure has me curious.
