Junior Ranger Summer Day Camp 2024

Our family culture has an “all for one and one for all” mentality most of the time. Our kiddos are pretty close in age, our youngest son is 10, our daughter is nearly 12, and our oldest son is 14. One of the criteria I use for determining whether or not we are going to participate in an activity or do an outing is whether or not we can all go. I know lots of families split the kiddos based on age and interest and that’s a great plan too, but splitting up requires more running around on my part! And “post-Camp Fire Jen” gets overwhelmed very easily. I simply cannot do as much as I used to be able to do. God knows what he’s doing and it’s probably better off for me to be eliminating hurry. Anyways, I found a nearby Junior Ranger Day Camp for ages 8-11 and my oldest son was eligible to help as a teen volunteer. Hooray!

*note that in the morning of the first day of camp my youngest two children informed me that none of their closed-toed shoes fit 🤦🏻‍♀️

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect because I really want/needed some time and space to prep for homeschooling high school this coming September. I’m working on creating course descriptions/syllabi for each of our high school classes. This may not be necessary. But, it could be necessary depending on what our son decides to do after high school graduation. If anyone ever needs to know what he did for 9th grade science, I want to have a piece of paper I can hand him that says exactly what he did. So, I’m writing a syllabus for each course. It isn’t a really difficult task but it takes time and it’s much easier to work on when I have a chunk of uninterrupted time.

So, for 3 days I got to drop off all three kiddos and take my textbooks and laptop to the closest library and work for a few hours each day.

So excited about my Little Miss planner!
Coolest laptop bag ever – I bought a few years ago when LEGO collaborated with Target

The library didn’t open until later in the day on one of the camp days. On that day, I went thrift store shopping for some retail therapy!

☀️I hope that you are enjoying the middle of summer wherever you are!

  1. My guess is that each of you greatly enjoyed each of the 3 days. Two of my favorite things to do are to spend time at the library – reading, browsing, working – and to go thrift shopping. Love your finds, and your kids are adorable. I think God knew exactly what he was doing!

  2. Oh, Jen….this made my morning! I LOVE that the kids (they’re growing fast–as the shoes identified, lol) and YOU were able to enjoy the time–learning, shopping, and planning. Mom’s never get a day off, though! I love everything in this post. By the way, YOUR pants–did you know that a zebra represents my cancer? I nearly squealed when I saw them! God bless you all! Keep crushing life!

    1. 🥰 The little zebras on the capris are embroidered on! I couldn’t resist them! I’ll have to post a photo of me wearing them! 🦓
They’re size 8, will they fit you? I’m happy to wear them once and send them to you. Maybe you can just throw a belt on them and cinch them up. They can be traveling pants!!
