Coffee Shops – Portland, OR

These fall into the categories “unique to the area” and “art/culture”. Portland is known for having lots of unique coffee shops. One of my vacation goals was to try a different coffee shop each day we were in Portland – we only missed one day.

on Thursday we visited Triumph Coffee

My husband got a coffee, the children each got a seasonal special, Golden apple cider with turmeric, and we split a big cheddar and chive biscuit (toasted and buttered). Everything was delicious! I was sure to take a nice big taste sip (mom tax) from each of my kiddo’s beverages, and I kinda wished I had ordered one for myself! It was the best cider I’ve ever had!

I got a mocha and a ginger biscuit, K got a hot chocolate and a buttermilk biscuit, S got coffee cake and B got a chocolate croissant. The highlights here we’re the pastries, but everyone thought the beverages were pretty off the mark. We tried again at lunch and ordered avocado toast and tomato soup. I liked the avocado toast, but the kiddos didn’t like the addition of lemon zest, the soup was too spicy so we saved it for E.

on Sunday we stopped by Sisters Coffee Company

E got coffee. I got a seasonal special “overcast latte” which was a latte sweetened with simple syrup made from English tea. It was very unique, definitely worth trying, but I wouldn’t get it again. It tasted like coffee and tea mixed together, and E liked it better than I did.

on Monday our final stop before leaving Portland was Ovation

E got Moroccan spiced coffee and a Moroccan breakfast biscuit, I got a pistachio latte, 2 of the kiddos got hot chocolate, and we shared a toasted coconut scone and a spinach and feta croissant. Everything was super delicious. I’d have a pistachio latte from Ovation every day if I could!

Trying out several local coffee shops was really fun. It was one of my favorite parts of our trip. If we visit Portland again, I would want to keep adding to our list of coffee shops and eventually try them all! Of the places we sampled, our favorites were Triumph and Ovation. But then again, we didn’t try any of the food treats from Sisters… so I’d need to go there again and try something different. 😊

  1. This is a fantastic post! I like how you tried different cafes each day. What a cool way to try new drinks and try new spots. I’m the boring person and stick to my Starbucks for Peets.
    I’ll have to try your approach. And yes, I like the “mom tax!”
    Kids look so happy and chill!

  3. Oh, I loved this! Little coffee shops are the best! We used to go, every Saturday, to a local place called, “Kettle and Stone.” The best part was getting to know the regulars and sitting outside and just listening to the banter that went back and forth.

    The pandemic and my Stage IV cancer diagnosis changed everything, but hubby still stops by there from time to time after surfing.
