Friendly Friday Photo Challenge – Capturing a Feeling

The Friendly Friday Photo Challenge this week comes from Amanda at Something to Ponder About. If you would like to participate please visit her site for the rules. These photo challenges are lots of fun!

The following image of my daughter was taken at Cabrillo National Monument in California. She was 6-years-old at the time and she is furious with me. I had decided to take the 3 kids on a hike by myself. It was windy and chilly and she didn’t want to be doing it. Being in such a beautiful environment, I wanted to take portraits of all 3 kiddos. I went ahead and took hers even though she obviously wasn’t in the mood. The look of intense displeasure captured here is atypical of her usually sweet personality. I love the juxtaposition of the delicate yellow flowers in the background, her unfiltered angry expression, and the perfect unruly ringlets of hair framing her face.

  1. Oh my goodness. Reminds me of a time when I was just under 3 years old. My Mother wanted to dress me up and take me to a photographer for a photo for my Grandmother. Oh, I fussed so much with the Photographer that my mother said, “just take the photo as is”. When I saw the special 8X10 I marked it up with a red ink pen. Fortunately my mother already sent my Grandmother’s copy to her. I was a pitiful pouting pose. 😦

      1. It was at my parent’s house. When their house was cleaned out the pictures and other family photos were put into boxes and my sister Geri has them in storage. One day I’ll see it again.

    1. Thanks Kelly! Your comment made me look back at the original post. My daughter was so infuriated at my insistence on hiking and taking photos was just adding insult to injury.
