Rock Springs/Green River KOA Journey – Wyoming

This KOA had a high tech weather station.

The RV park was basically a gravel parking lot, with a great kids playground complete with, tetherball, teeter-totters, a climbing wall, and a jump pad.

We didn’t spend as much time as we would have liked playing on all this cool equipment, because poor K came down with the stomach flu Saturday morning. The poor thing was miserable and we just stayed in vegging out all day. Wah wah wah.

The weather was great, and E got to go on a bike ride at Green River. Unfortunately, the area was swarming with wasps!

All those wasps reminded me of one of our favorite picture book fairytales, The Giant Jam Sandwich, by John Vernon Lord. If you’re not familiar with the story, you should check it out. It is truly a delight!

I really must share a few short excerpts with you.

One hot summer in Itching Down, Four million wasps flew into town.  They drove the picnickers away, They chased the farmers from their hay…

And the noisy nasty nuisance grow until the villagers cried, “What can we do?”…

Then Bap the baker leaped to his feet and cried, “What do wasps like best to eat? Strawberry jam! Now wait a minute! If we made a giant sandwich we could trap them in it!”…

Now, back to the bike ride at Green River…

Suddenly, a particularly aggressive wasp dove straight for E, and flew into the Jeep. E, quickly swatted at the wasp, using his left hand like a tennis racket. As his arm extended in full swing, he completely missed the wasp and his wedding ring (which has been needing to be re-sized for quite some time), flew off his finger into this…

Oh, heavens to Betty! The ring flew straight, and true, and oh so far. And then it disappeared with a soft pinging thud, somewhere in that gravel lot.

E said a quick prayer, about how there was no way he would ever find the ring, and that the Only One who could find it was Jesus. He walked around in a giant circle, looked down, and there it was, only 35ft or so from the Jeep!

Having recovered his wedding ring, E started off on his bike ride.  It was just like the parable of the lost coins found in Luke 15:8-10.

Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.” In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

Well, it was a lot like that parable anyways. Except that the woman had 10 coins and only lost one, and E only has that one wedding ring. I lost my matching wedding ring in the Camp Fire, it was on my bedside table, in my jewelry box. Needless to say, their was much rejoicing in our tiny home on wheels, when the ring was found!

We only stayed at this KOA for 2 nights. Now we’re headed to Salt Lake City, Utah. Wish us luck, because the AC is out upfront next to the steering wheel! The AC is also out in the main part of the RV by the kitchen! Yikes!

  1. About the air conditioner; sometimes the vacuum hose jostles loose over time and may need to be attached more securely. Just a thought. It happened to my suv every time we pulled our pop up trailer.
