One of my teens has been having a consistently rough time on Mondays in particular. The teen has been feeling generally miserable and unmotivated to do schoolwork and is acting exactly how they feel. This is served with a heaping side of poor attitude drizzled with a snarky tone. A few ideas popped into my brain over the course of several days. I tied the constructive ideas all together and came up with these candy-gram affirmation postcards.
I bought these cute/funny postcards on Amazon. 40 Funny Postcards Punny Puns

I also bought these two books on Amazon. Maybe you’re better with words than I am and you don’t need help coming up with nice things to say to try and motivate ill-tempered teens and you wouldn’t need the books. I have a hard time coming up with phrases of affirmation on my own and these books each have 100 ways to tell your children that they’re awesome. This is particularly helpful if your child/teen’s love language is “words of affirmation” and this is not your love language (so these words are sometimes difficult for you to think of). Some of the phrases include:
- “I have great confidence in your future.”
- “I believe in you and all you will become.”
- “You are so brave, and I’m proud of you.”

And then it’s as simple as selecting a postcard, writing out a sentence of affirmation, and sticking on a candy.

So now all three of my children start Monday mornings with a cute/funny postcard, a handwritten phrase of affirmation, and a sweet treat.
🤞I hope this helps. But, at the very least I don’t think it’s gonna hurt.
My husband, and I also gave the teen in question a mini lecture on the requirements of doing one’s schoolwork whether one feels like it or not, and any attitude problems or tears were not going to change that fact.
Fantastic! How do you find these wonderful learning resources is a talent in itself. You are quite a loving mother and teacher Kudos to you (and your husband)

I think all of this is so WONDERFUL! I love the life you’re living–even through the difficulties of parenting, teen challenges…all of it, you’re searching and learning ways to encourage while still teaching valuable lessons of responsibility. I think this is awesome! I love those books! I have this feeling he will look back on these notes and times with a lot of love and appreciation, Momma. Well-done! God bless you all!
