Romantic Weekend Getaway – South Lake Tahoe

My husband and I haven’t been on a romantic weekend getaway since my best friend got married in Washington State and my oldest was 8-months-old. A date weekend was well overdue. We spent two nights and one whole day on a mini vacation while the kiddos stayed home with their nearest grandparents.

Tahoe is spectacular! It is also not especially budget friendly. We tried not to worry too much about the price tag and instead focus on connection and each other.

we stayed at Marriott’s Timber Lodge

Instead of a dinner cruise we walked 1.8 miles from our hotel and ate at The Idle Hour, a restaurant with a lake view.

Next morning, we rode the gondola and a chair lift to the top of Heavenly at a summit of 9,600 feet. At the top we hiked, enjoyed the views and got some great photos.

After riding the gondola back down to our hotel we headed out for lunch. We’d brought along a borrowed picnic basket, so we drove to The Cork and More, and bought a picnic lunch of sandwiches, potato salad, and 2 chocolate truffles. We packed our basket and drove to the beach at Sugar Pine State Park.

After walking along the beach and exploring the state park we drove back to the hotel and wandered around Heavenly Village.

We ate at Jimmy’s Restaurant for dinner and the food was absolutely incredible! It was a short 0.6 mile walk from the hotel.

Next morning, we had a late breakfast/brunch at The Getaway Cafe before heading home. I got the pancake special of the day with house made mango & dragonfruit syrup.

We had a lovely weekend, we recommend all the establishments mentioned in this post, and we hope to visit South Lake Tahoe again! 💙
