I don’t enjoy pumpkin carving. It’s smelly and slimy and messy and takes a long time.
I’ve been coming up with other decorating ideas the past few years – painting them or melting crayons on them – anything but carving. But my kiddos were begging and I gave in this year.
🎃 What’s your favorite way to decorate pumpkins?
Wonderful decorative pumpkin!

We have one in the basement which we take out every year (when we are home) and plug it in. 🙂 I do love the creativity when carving actual pumpkins.

That sounds wonderful! I had to light a scented candle in the dining room where they had done the project because of the pumpkin gut smell. 🎃

You are right about the creativity in carving, and it is a very unique art project. It’s not like we carve squash frequently throughout the year. 🤷🏻♀️

Very creative! And good for you to let them have fun carving, even if it is slimy and smelly. 🙂

My daughter drew with Sharpie on hers! We go in spurts over here with carving. Hubby and I didn’t grow up with Halloween 🎃, so it’s not a super big deal around here. My 15 yo started our annual autumn Redwall Feast (she’s a super fan of books) and that kinda replaces the ‘Ween 😆 for us. She usually cooks up some things from the Redwall Cookbook and we dress up for feast in costume. It’s sometimes in October, but November is fair game too. AnyHOO, way more info than you asked for. 😂😂😂

Thanks for the comment! I enjoyed hearing about your traditions! We don’t celebrate Halloween in the usual way either. We have a chili cook-off and a yummy pumpkin dessert and family game night or a movie. Sometimes we invite another “non trick or treating” family over to join us. We usually visit a pumpkin patch with a corn maze sometime in October and that’s what the kids look forward to. Sometimes the kids wear costumes all day on the 32st. Once we walked around the neighborhood a day early giving the neighbors cookies. I’ve never been a big fan of the scary stuff or the excessive sugar. 🤷🏻♀️
Your tradition sounds wonderful though none of us have read Redwall yet! 😁

The carved pumpkins look great. I am sure the kids had a fun time carving their chosen images into the pumpkins. Great memories being made at your house this Halloween. Kuddos to you for helping the art project become a reality.
