Accidentally Stolen Refrigerator

So… when we moved from Idaho to Nevada we weren’t able to sell our house in Idaho. We ended up renting it with a property management company. We want to sell the house because we’ve lost a lot of money in renting it. We chose not to renew the lease with the tenants, and they scheduled a move out date with the property managers.

We got photos of the move out inspection and the 2nd refrigerator that was in the garage is missing.

My biggest issue here is that I used to live in a world where accidentally stealing a refrigerator wasn’t “a thing”. Now, I live in a world where people can accidentally steal refrigerators!!!

🤦🏻‍♀️

Question: Have any of you ever accidentally stolen a refrigerator?

Follow up question: Have any of you ever heard a story about an accidentally stolen refrigerator?

Follow up Quiz:

What is the most likely reason that the fridge was accidentally stolen?

a) Bad karma – I should’ve been a nicer teenager
b) The house is cursed
c) “oh these things happen from time to time” – C’est la vie
d) property managers did not do a great job
e) I needed another lesson on being patient
f) karma or lesson but my husband’s fault not mine
g) there was never a fridge and I’m losing my mind

h) The fridge rolled out of the garage on its own accord – it’s too cold to be a fridge in Idaho and it absconded to Florida with a secret lover

This is a developing story… we will update you as more details emerge…

    1. Me too Betty, me too! I’m still waiting to hear an explanation from the property manager. So far he has “reached out to the tenants”. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Unfortunately, the security deposit will not cover the fridge and the water hydrant outside that they broke. Anything over the security deposit is likely not going to be recovered. 🤷🏻‍♀️

  1. What? My goodness! A fridge is huge and takes a strong back and a truck or trailer. Not just something that can “easily” walk off. Wow, that is horrible! Any neighbors around? Maybe they saw it leave.

Maybe another (silly) option: the fridge misses you and is walking to you in Nevada. 🙂

  2. Oh, jeez oh Pete!! This is crazy!! My friend, I wish I would’ve rented from you!! Privately! Your refrigerator would still be there (it didn’t leave Idaho with a lover for Florida–because that would be crazy! Lol). I’m so sorry, I’d like to say I’m surprised. I sold my home for this rental (my daughter-in-law and grands are visiting her folks in Idaho so I’m jealous). I bought my own refrigerator since this rental didn’t have one. D and E seem the best choices. Patience isn’t easy. I’m so sorry!!

    1. Charla suggested that it missed us so much it’s left to try and find us, like one of those lost pet stories. That’s my fave explanation so far. Still waiting to hear an explanation from the property manager… so far, he has “reached out to the tenants”. Meanwhile, I’m vigorously trying to remain calm. 😎🤪

  3. Oh no! My vote is for the property manager falling down on the job or the movers being overzealous.

I feel your pain. Our youngest son and his girlfriend rent our last house from us. They’re good tenants, but I really, really don’t want to be a landlord anymore.

  4. This kinda makes me sick to my stomach. I just can’t imagine stealing anything! The management company should have been there before tgey moved in to make his own inventory then do inventory the day the tenants were moving out. I don’t know. Maybe I’d be a mean manager but the management is responsible to hold the tenants responsible for damages and theft. Look on the contract and see what is the job they agreed to do. Anyway, it just isn’t right! I hope this works out in your favor.❤️
