Valley of Fire State Park – Nevada

Camping stop #2 on our road trip to Arizona was Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. We’ve been working on Nevada State Park Junior Ranger workbooks and collecting passport stamps. We had hoped to collect a stamp here, but we arrived after the visitor center had closed and we left the next morning before it opened. We will have to visit again! We paid an extra $10 for water and electric hookups but K and I ended up using the free showers since they were nice and clean.

The red sandstone rock formations were so amazing!

There were natives in our campsite when we arrived.

Desert bighorn sheep are the state animal of Nevada. Their horns can weigh up to 30 pounds.

They came back again after we had parked the trailer.

With just one short evening to explore, we headed to the petroglyphs at Atlatl Rock. We had fun making up the stories that might’ve been told with the petroglyphs.

The kiddos scrambled around with dad while I tagged along taking photos for posterity.

When we got up in the morning, we heard what sounded like gunshots. It was the desert bighorn sheep playing and butting heads together!!

We will have to plan another camping trip to visit Valley of Fire State Park again sometime and do some more exploring. It was so beautiful.

  1. Valley Of Fire State Park is breathtaking! The colors are glorious. Glad you saw the petroglyphs. I just stare at them and wonder who “wrote” them and who they were for. Just fascinating.
