Our Family Summer Reading 2023

From the beginning of June until the end of August, any one in our family who finished a book got to add a paper scoop of ice cream to our chart. Once our chart had five scoops we got to have an ice cream treat together.

Here are our summer book and ice cream lists:

There’s just one small problem with my fun summer reading incentive program. Now that summer is over we still want ice cream after reading books! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m going to have to come up with something else for us to earn for the fall… do you have any ideas?

  1. What a fun and delicious summer program. I started to write “tradition” instead of “summer program,” but realized that goes against what you said about trying to come up with a different idea post-summer. Your treats are very creative, too!

    But while it is still summer where I am, your treat schedule made me consider the wisdom of following your example, of limiting myself to one ice cream treat for each five books I read. It’s a thought I don’t really want to pursue!

  2. Oh my goodness. So many wonderful books you all have read. And the ice cream choices? All of them are my “favorite” . But lately I have changed over to sugar free fruit pops. It satisfies my sweet tooth and cold and refreshing too. I enjoyed reading this blog so much. Thank you for sharing.🤗🙋🏻‍♀️

  3. Great and tasty incentive program!! Your post was perfect timing for me; I’ve been searching for books that Elliot, my reluctant reader, might find interesting.
    My favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate and chocolate!! Elliot and Ellis favorite flavor are ube (frozen yogurt) and chocolate. My lactose intolerance flares up here and there, which makes ice cream eating finicky. A very sad thing for me. lol

        I’ll take your book list into consideration. Elliot likes to read books with animals, so I just ordered him book titled White Fur Flying by Patricia MacLachlan. He just read WOndrous Rex.
        Ellis is a voracious reader and will read all kinds. Hard to balance both types of readers and make them not compare. Homeschooling mama’s dilemma!!

        “Ranger in time” is it about a time traveling golden retriever who rescues people on the Oregon Trail, or the Underground Railroad, or the Titanic, etc. I bet Elliot would like them!

  5. Favorite ice cream…something with chocolate…lately it’s been like a raspberry and chocolate.

    Favorite book I read this summer…I haven’t finished it but probably Last Child in the Woods.

    Looks like a great reading list and lots of yummy ice cream!
