We moved during the homeschool year and got behind… again… This year my kiddos really wanted a summer break but we’re doing another season of summer homeschool instead. C’est la vie! To be honest – I’d rather take the summer off too. But sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do. And the only thing to do is have a positive attitude and make the best of it.
Sometimes it helps to get a few new cute stationary items to spark joy in the midst of the work!

We’ve done summer homeschool 3 past summers and I’ve written 2 other posts about them.
Homeschool Summer ☀️ School Incentive Store
Watermelon 🍉 Wages – Summer School 2022
This summer homeschool season is kicking off with a week of half-day horse camp! Hopefully this mini-summer-break will help everybody get a bit of a reset before buckling down and getting back to work. While the kiddos are off riding horses, I’ll be organizing the house and prepping summer homeschooling in hopes of making it more appealing.
Being new to this area, we joined up with a few homeschool groups that have fun field trips and hikes planned. We signed up for swimming lessons at a nearby public pool, and we also grabbed a State Park Junior Ranger workbook to work on. We found a portable sunshade at Costco to better enjoy the outdoors nearby. We don’t have any road trips or camping trips on the calendar yet… but we’ve been know to make/change plans at the last minute so we’ll see what happens…
Starting June 12th we will all get back to finishing up our math lessons with Teaching Textbooks, Question a Day Journal for Kids, The Good and the Beautiful cursive, and Typing Agent. My oldest with continue working on The Good and the Beautiful language arts program and The Mystery of History level 1 while the younger 2 will work on Evan Moor Building Spelling Skills. The kiddos will also keep working on their Extreme Book Nerd challenges.
Our summer read-aloud list includes:
Riders of the Pony Express by Ralph Moody (to tie in with horse camp)
Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome
The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy by Jeanne Birdsall

Poll: We make faux currency to use for summer homeschooling. Past summers we’ve had sun coins, pineapple points, and watermelon wages. Please vote on your favorite for us to use this year in the comments below:
Coconut Cash
Banana Bucks
Lemon Loot
Strawberry Schillings
Thanks for following us or stopping by for a visit! Happy homeschooling!
We read Riders of the Pony Express this year for our History of CA unit. It’s a good read! And I love the Penderwicks! I read the whole series when I discovered them last year. I haven’t read Swallows and Amazons though so I want to hear about that one.
I vote Strawberry Schillings.

Nice 👍
I forget what you are using for history this year. Are you using a curriculum or did you just choose books about California history?

We used Around California with Picture Books by beautiful feet books. We loved it because my daughter likes reading a lot. https://www.bfbooks.com/Around-California-with-Childrens-Books?sc=18&category=3202

This is wonderful!!! Yay! On a side note~the Pony Express museum, in Jefferson City, MO, carries my little kid’s book about the state of MO (I included the Pony Express). I read to local 3rd graders as my book covers their “expectations” in learning and it was my goal to teach history and amazing facts about our own home state! I had begun book 2, headed West to 10 National Parks, when I was diagnosed with my rare Stage 4 cancer. You’re such a wonderful Momma and teacher! What a great line up!! 💕💕💕

When I saw the stationary picture, my heart did a little leap! I too share a joy and low key obsession with cute pens and paper. Have you tried Daiso? They have cute things for mostly $1.50.
Giving you mad props for doing homeschooling this summer. We take June off but we do like a page of math and writing each day. Kumon math book and Spelling You See. I enjoy your audible suggestions.
We need to get back into it…kind of stopped for a few months.

Hi friend, I sent you an email last night. Wondering if you received it. 🤔 maybe in case it went to spam or something.
