Great American Campout 2026 & Scorpion Hunt Hike

Feature photo by my oldest son, age 16.

We had a fun opportunity to join a group campout for the Great American Campout last weekend. It was fun to see old friends and make new ones.

There were fun ice breaker games, yard games, a silly version of baseball, stories, s’mores, looking at the moon with a monocular, and a scorpion hunt…

Hike #9 for 2026

We hiked in the moonlight with black-light flashlights on a flat, well-marked path for about a mile. We found 11 scorpions.

Have you ever been on a scorpion hunt? If so, how many did you find?

  1. I never heard of this until recently. We were talking with an AZ state park about volunteering, and they mentioned this activity. Unfortunately, something came up in our schedule, and we won’t be volunteering there. But maybe in the future. The ranger was really excited about this activity. You are giving your kids great experiences.
