Barton Spring Pool & Bats of Congress Avenue Bridge – Austin, TX

I really wanted to check out the natural hot spring, Barton Spring Pool while visiting Austin and we weren’t traveling in our travel trailer, so I knew we needed some towels to dry off that would be compact enough to fit in the suitcase and then fit in a daypack. I ended up ordering this 4-pack from Amazon and they worked out great.

Thin Turkish Beach Towels

I was not anticipating that we would be paying an entrance fee of $9 per adult, $5 per youth 12-17, and $4 for children under 12. Oh well. The water is fed by a natural spring and is approximately 70°F year-round. Unfortunately, 70°F is not as warm as I thought it would be! It is nice that there is no food and no glass containers allowed inside so it stays clean and safer for swimming. My husband’s conference had wrapped up at this point and he was able to join us for this afternoon excursion. Unfortunately, I didn’t take many photos.

After swimming for just a bit, we took an Uber back to the hotel and changed for dinner. We walked to Moonshine Grill which had the best food we ate in Austin!

After dinner, we a walked to the bat observation area under Congress Avenue Bridge. At twilight. we enjoyed seeing the largest urban bat colony in the world! They are Mexican Free-Tailed bats. The observation area under the bridge did not provide the best photo op. I think it would’ve been better to watch from on top of the bridge itself… next time!

We hope you enjoyed our photos from our “Spring Break/work conference tag-along trip” to Austin, Texas.

As always, thank you for following us or stopping by for a visit!
