Orthodontist, Poison Control, Pediatric Endocrinologist, Goodwill, and Rolled Ice Cream

We had a full two days this week.

Orthodontist – on Wednesday morning my daughter has an orthodontist appointment. He said she’s doing great but needs 20 more weeks. She was not excited to hear this. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Poison Control – on Wednesday evening my husband and I were putting away our portable sunshade. We were on our back patio trying to get it to go back into its storage bag. He kneeled down and then jumped up and yelped “ouch!” “What was that!?!” At that moment, I saw the scorpion running across the patio super fast. Man those little guys are fast! So then we kinda freaked out because we don’t know anything about scorpions except what we’ve seen in movies – which is very bad! Thank the Lord I had the wherewithal to call poison control. The nurse who answered my call, Laura, was incredible! She told me that I probably didn’t need to rush him to the ER and gave me a list of symptoms to watch for. Symptoms for: infection, anaphylactic shock, and bark scorpions. Apparently there are two types of scorpions in Nevada, the kind that sting like a bee and the kind that rush you to the ER. Unfortunately, they are extremely difficult to distinguish, unless you are an expert, so you just have to wait and see if you get the bad symptoms. Fortunately, my husband did not get the bad symptoms and he is doing just fine. We are so blessed to live in a country that has poison control. What an incredible resource.

Pediatric Endocrinologist – On Thursday, we took my youngest son to the pediatric endocrinologist to assess his growth hormone level. We had our PCP test for low growth hormone, and the results were kind of borderline, so we wanted a second opinion from a specialist. The doctor that we saw seemed really knowledgeable and ordered more labs to rule out other things like celiac disease and iron deficiency. We are hoping to get the results next week.

Goodwill – After the pediatric endocrinologist appointment, my husband needed to run an errand at the cell phone store and it happened to be right next to a Goodwill. I went in to shop for some Homeschool resources.

btw my parents helped us reupholster The Church Pew again – this floral denim is Lucky brand – my mom picked it up before JoAnn’s closed

Rolled Ice Cream – Since my youngest son had been very good at his doctor’s appointment, and my daughter had been very good at her orthodontist appointment, and my husband survived the scorpion sting, we went out for ice cream. We found an ice cream shop that makes rolled ice cream which we had never tried before and it was a delightful treat! It was really fun to watch them make the ice cream.

Today, we’re leaving for a weekend camping getaway! I’m really hoping it’s relaxing!

🦷 Have you ever had orthodontic treatment,

🦂 been stung by a scorpion,

☠️ called poison control,

⚕️been to an endocrinologist,

📚 read any of our “new” books,

🍦 or tried rolled ice cream?

We hope you have a relaxing weekend, and that you can enjoy a day of rest that restores you to wholeness!

  1. I’d have to answer “no” on all your questions; although, I have read Bill Bryson! He’s one of my favorite authors. And I love anything Lincoln. So, it looks like you’ve got some winners there! Now, I have gone camping. 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful time!

    1. Well, if you ever happen across rolled ice cream, I would definitely recommend trying it! I’m glad the answer to all the other questions were no! You’re my camping guru girl! As we’re about to head it out – the propane tank regulator is leaking so we’re gonna have to stop on the way and get a replacement… You know how it goes! 🤪

      1. E said it felt like a mild bee sting. But, neither of us knew anything about scorpion stings. We thought they required immediate medical attention like a rattlesnake bite.

  2. What a week! Y’all deserve a relaxing weekend getaway.

I haven’t been bitten by a scorpion, but either my hubby or I carried one home in our backpack after a weekend camping trip. (I didn’t even know we had scorpions in Georgia!) One of our cats found it when it crawled out of the pack and alerted us, and Kenn disposed of it.

I love all of James Herriot’s books.

I’ve had rolled ice cream once. It was good – and it was interesting to watch the rolling process.

  3. My goodness, that was a crazy two days! All of you deserved a special treat. I haven’t heard of rolled ice cream. Is it just in how it is scooped up? I wish for you a very enjoyable camping trip with no bites (except for biting into wonderful camp food), relaxing, and beautiful scenery.

    1. Thank you! It was fascinating to watch them make our rolled ice cream. They pour liquid on a frozen metal plate and chop in things like Oreo cookies, caramel, mint extract, etc. whatever you order. Then they spread it out flat like spreading peanut butter on bread. Then they scrape it up in rolls with a tool like a putty knife. See if you can google a video, or see if there’s a shop near you while you’re traveling. I think you and Kevin would enjoy it!

  4. Thank goodness your husband didn’t develop any symptoms!! I would have freaked out if me or anyone one of us got stung by a scorpion. Seriously, you get the best book hauls at Goodwill. When I go, I get overwhelmed with all the selection that I end up with none.

As to your list, Elliot and I have both had braces. Ellis is next, but her baby teeth are taking their time coming out. I’ve also called poison control when I accidentally took an extra dose of my antidepressants. Lol. The lady was helpful too and told me that it was okay. We also had rolled ice cream…I think it was called ninja ice cream.

I hope all the lab results come out well for your youngest! Ouch, he had to get a poke. Please tell him that Ellis got a blood draw too last week, and she wasn’t too happy about that. Brave souls!!
