The Airing of Grievances

Any “Seinfeld” fans out there?

In a classic holiday episode George’s family celebrates “Festivus”, a made-up holiday. The idea came from one of the writers for the show, whose father had invented it in real life. Anyways, one of the Festivus traditions in the show was “the airing of grievances” where everyone went around the table to state the ways they had been offended. Sort of a satirical opposite to saying what we’re thankful for at the Thanksgiving table. I realize this sounds horrible as I write it, but it was hilarious on the show if you enjoy the type of humor that Jerry Seinfeld is famous for.

Here are my grievances:

1. Whoever tore the middle page out of the book we’re reading aloud, this was not nice. I bought the book used. I sincerely hope the person who donated it did not realize it had a page torn out of the middle.

Luckily, we live in an age of immediate gratification and consumerism so I can order another copy and get it by 11/25-11/29. There are pros and cons to living in the sticks. Amazon takes longer out here.

I find myself scratching my head about the missing page much like the character on the cover illustration.

2. I’m headed to the ophthalmologist again today because I’m on my 2nd glasses prescription and I still can’t read out of these. Luckily, I was able to get squeezed in for another appointment just before the doctor goes on her month-long holiday vacation.

🙏🙏🙏 that this next Rx is one that can help me see!

My sister is visiting out west between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year so we’ll be celebrating our version of Festivus with her. We don’t actually go around the table airing grievances at one another. We will enjoy a fun dinner with Seinfeld themed foods and exchange gifts with her early. We will play a family game, do a multi-generational art project, and watch a movie.

What holiday plans are you looking forward to?

Alternate question: do you have any grievances you need to air?

    1. I have terrible astigmatism and strabismus (lazy eye). Getting a new eye doctor and new glasses is a huge hassle. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m now friends with the optician at Costco. Today we exchanged mashed potato recipes for Thanksgiving. 😂
Hope your new glasses are perfect! 😎

      1. It is a hassle to go to the optometrist, especially when you have extra eye concerns! I feel your pain. And do you find it hard to pick out glasses when you need glasses to find the frame that works for you?
It’s great that you made friends with the Costco optician! That’s awesome.
I’m told the glasses will be ready sometime this week. I don’t know why my eyes were giving me so much trouble in October and now the old prescription is doable. I think it was all the stress.
Wishing you the best with the new doctor and prescription!

      2. My last 3 frames have all been by Bebe. I’ve found that they are the most flattering and comfortable for me personally. So now I just look at those exclusively to narrow it down. Costco only had one option so it made it pretty easy to choose! 🤓

  1. Good luck with the glasses! We look forward to all the holidays!!! All the people for thanksgiving and sharing what we’re thankful for. Multiple Christmases so everyone gets to see grandkids for Christmas…and Hanukkah just for us since we’re those weird Christians who also decided to do Jewish holidays because…who doesn’t need more holidays! We even got a nice menorah this year instead of using a kid made one.
