I’m excited! The Idaho Falls Library just released their Extreme Book Nerd for Kids 2024 challenge. I like to use this challenge as a way to stretch our horizons of book selections over the year. We’ve discovered some of our favorite books by completing these reading challenges. We’ve also read a wider variety of books, and read books we might not have read otherwise. The books are supposed to be at least 100 pages long to count for the challenge. Stay tuned for which books we read to fulfill each category. The feature photo is some of the books off our shelves and in our queue that I think will work! You can click on the blue categories to see the suggestions offered by the IFPL.
I’ll have to come up with a prize since we no longer have an IFPL card, they are giving t-shirts as prizes this year. Maybe I can get away with getting us t-shirts as prizes. I’ll have to look for something cool and book related.

#5. Is “a book recommended by a friend”, what kid-friendly book(s) do you recommend?
T-shirts are great prizes! It’s wonderful you are doing this book challenge.

Check out fun graphic shirts on Amazon and you’ll get a bunch of ideas. We searched up Christian shirts and there were some good ones. Ellis got one that says “Lettuce pray.” lol
We’re not reading together…they read their own books. We just got the #7 graphic novel for “Wings of Fire.” They both like reading that series. Ellis is really into the “Babysitters Club” and Elliot is reading “All about wonder” for his reading log. My reluctant reader has read a few books this semester all pertaining to animals and it’s consistent so far, except for the past few weeks. First time he’s reading regularly. “Odder” by Applegate, “Wayward creatures,” “Wondrous Rex,” “White fur flying,” and “Waiting for the magic” by MacLachlan. Maybe those are some books you could look into. that may interest you guys.

How is Odder? I was considering using that one.
I loved the Babysitters Club when I was a kid! How fun 🤩

Kids really enjoyed Odder. It is written in poetry stanzas. It was originally Ellis’ book but Elliot decided to read it for his reading log. Yikes, the ensuing fight over whose book it was. The cover of the otter is adorable but we ended up losing it! What the heck.
Ellis got a graphic novel of the Babysitter’s Club at the Stanford hospital library and got hooked on the stories. She read the whole series, plus the Babysitter’s Little Sister series.
You read it too when you were a kid? I didn’t but I was a huge fan of Sweet Valley High. lol. Like eons ago.

Likewise, I haven’t read the babysitters club in literally decades!!!
But I remember my favorite character was Claudia because she kept a secret stash of sweet snacks hidden under her bed 😉

Oh, why can’t you read any book?
It’s hard to choose a best book. Some of our favorites are “Anne of Green Gables”, “Heidi”, “Holes”, “Pablo and Birdy”, “The Secret Garden”, “Around the World in 80 Days”, “Because of Winn Dixie”, “The One and Only Ivan”, and “The Chronicles of Narnia” series.
