“Sticky Faith: Everyday Ideas to Build Lasting Faith in Your Kids” by Dr. Kara Powell & Dr. Chap Clark

Book #5 for 2026

I read this book on our flights to Austin, TX. Overall, I felt the book leaned on the side of too idealistic, but there were some good ideas throughout.

“Kids experience Jesus Christ when adults in the church give them grace, time, and genuine love with no hidden agenda.” pages 9-10

In chapter 4, the authors give four questions that they like to ask each member of the family during family dinners. “What was your high of the day? What was your low? How did you see God at work?… What mistakes did you make today?” page 90

In chapter 5, the authors talk about creating a “sticky web of relationships” and give a formula of 5:1 – five Christian adults that can mentor your tween/teen. Five families that can walk through life together and be there for one another and each other’s children. I think this is where I felt like the others were being a little too idealistic. They made it seem like this was something that would be very easy to accomplish and I don’t think that it is easy to accomplish. I like the idea, but I’m not sure how practical it is.

In chapter 6, the authors provide a family prayer/mission statement that I thought was really good.

“We pray that the Lord will make us: leaders and learners, people of gentle strength, content risk-takers, folks who love and serve God and others.” page 124

“In many ways, that’s what this entire book is about: how can we be parents who love and serve God and others, and who raise kids who do likewise?” page 124

The authors give the following website for purchasing additional resources to help Christian faith stick with children throughout adolescence and young adulthood.
