Book #4 for 2025
I found this at a library book sale and bought it because I loved the title. It’s a collection of 60 devotionals by Kerri Pomarolli. At first, I felt like because I didn’t totally identify with the author and I didn’t totally agree with everything that she said, I didn’t know if I wanted to finish it. It definitely wasn’t my favorite book starting out. That being said, you can learn something from everyone and I decided to keep reading. By the end, I found myself enjoying it more than I thought I would based on my first impressions. Here are just a few of my favorite takeaways:
- Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9
- “I don’t like change, and sometimes it even scares me. I know I can only get through life‘s changes by depending on You [God] for peace and guidance. Please help me know You have my life mapped out before me, and then the twists and turns will be no surprise. Jesus, please take the wheel!” pg 18
- Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. – Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
- “You [God] know the plans for my life, my friendships, and how you will use me. Thank You for giving me friends I can love and be a witness too without really trying. Thank You for showing up in all our lives and making Yourself real to us, especially when we need to see You loving us.” pg 132
- Nothing will be impossible with God. – Luke 1:37
- “Help me dream with You [God] and restore my hope for better days. Help me get back up and put myself in the game again even when it looks impossible. You are the author of my story and I believe it is good.” pg 208
💕 Do you have a favorite devotional?
It seems good that you kept reading – in spite of the fact of the early issues. I once heard someone say, “If we had to agree with everything our friends said, we wouldn’t have any friends.” Plus, we are all works in progress, even the author of this book.

To give credit where due: The Chief of Interpretation at Big Cypress, where we were volunteering, said it referring to the Swamp Heritage Festival. He said it because the festival had speakers from the Miccosukee Tribe. The Miccosukee and the National Park haven’t always seen eye to eye – or agreed. In recent years, it is my understanding, there has been more interaction. It really stuck with me when he said that. 🙂 Have a great day!

My favorite devotional is Daily Hope for a Woman’s Heart: Back Porch Reflections on God’s Word by Sarah Beth Marr. I “stumbled across it” (was lead to it) in a tiny store in a tiny town last summer. It has spoken to my heart so many times with just the right words for where I am that day.
