Lake Siskiyou, California (2021)

Our youngest kiddo, age 7, requested a camping trip to Lake Siskiyou for his birthday this year.

Happy Birthday B!

We had a great weekend! Lake Siskiyou Campground is one of my most favorite camping places ever.

The lake is so serene and Mt. Shasta in the backdrop is beautifully majestic.

Lake Siskiyou & Mount Shasta

Added bonuses: the rental shack on the beach was open, the playground was open, there were fun hiking/biking trails that were open, *the outdoor theater was showing movies, *the arcade was open, campfires were allowed in fire pits, and hanging hammocks was A-ok as well. How delightfully normal.

*For anyone who disapproves of arcades and movies while camping, it was a birthday celebration 🎉 so exceptions were made.

It rained Friday evening shortly after we arrived. We hadn’t been in a thunder storm in awhile so we rather enjoyed it and ate dinner outside under the awning. I even went out in the rain to take a photo just for you!

We rented kayaks on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. We also borrowed inflatable kayaks from our friends/neighbors. We were delighted to do a side by side comparison because we were considering purchasing kayaks of some sort. For now, I think just renting them is our best option.

We tried using Reece’s peanut butter cups in our s’mores and I highly recommend this idea. I got the idea from whoever put the Reece’s peanut butter cups on the end-cap display with the chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows at Winco. Genius!

I used my plant identification app to find the name of this flower.

Sierra Iris

And no trip to Mount Shasta is complete without a visit to the headwaters to fill up a water bottle or three.

We also got a new camping book for our RV library.

As always, thank you for coming along and reading about our adventure!

  1. I just love your posts! Your activities with your family are heartwarming. I like the ideas you have. We will have to try the Reece smores when we camp with family in Michigan this summer. Love that unique sierra iris flower, and that you used an app to find out its name. We had blow up kayaks for awhile, but even those take up a fair amount of space. We have rented kayaks and are happy with that choice. Love the book! I am definitely an RV mouse which I know from not even reading that book. However, I will keep that book in mind for gifting to any littles. Lastly, your posts are making me want to visit northern California sometime. You find the best places! Thanks for your post, and enjoy your day!

    1. Thanks for your kind comment Betty. I love reading your posts as well! I like the ideas you have too. If you’ve read a version of Town Mouse, Country Mouse you get the idea of the book. I’m an RV mouse too.
Northern California has some very beautiful places. I hope you can visit someday!

  2. Looks like a wonderful time! So glad everything was open and there was rain and hopefully he had a wonderful birthday! My favorite place to go camping is the Sky High lakes in the Marble Mountains…unfortunately I haven’t been there in 8 years…we were finally ready to take our kiddos backpacking last summer and things happened…and then more things this summer so…maybe next year?
