South Beach and Beachfront Park – Crescent City, California

It was nineteen eighty somethin’

In the world that I grew up in

Skatin’ rinks and black Trans Am’s

Big hair and parachute pants

Lookin’ back now I can see me

And oh man did I look cheesy

But I wouldn’t trade those days for nothin’

Nineteen eighty somethin’

excerpt from the song, 19 Somethin’ by Mark Willis

This first photo of the Beachfront Park bear was taken in 1980-something. I’m guessing 1988 or 1989. We visited Crescent City often when I was growing up, so I can’t be sure of the exact date. The original photo was destroyed in the Camp Fire (2018) but luckily we had a digital copy in “the cloud” (whatever that is).

me, my dad, my sister (thanks mom for taking the picture)

On the day I wanted to re-create the photo shoot, my husband just happened to be wearing a plaid shirt and it was perfect.

The kiddos absolutely love playing at the beach and we couldn’t resist making some castles, watching some brave cold-water surfers and jumping in the waves at South Beach.

Nothin’ beats the beach, even if it’s really really cold!
