“Chasing Waves” – Mac Kerricher State Park – Fort Bragg, California

There are so many wildfires burning in California right now, and the air quality is so unhealthy from all the smoke. Several times these past couple of weeks, I’ve found myself wondering, “Why did we decide to move back to California anyway?”

This past weekend, we decided to take our Minnie Winnie on its maiden voyage. We went on a spontaneous, unplanned, overnight excursion with no reservations to Mac Kerricher State Park. When we got there I remembered why we chose to live in California.

How did all 3 kids loose all 6 of their flip flops the second the first wave hit their feet? That nice man with a skimboard in the background helped us fetch them all!
Better to play in the waves barefooted

“I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance… Dance!”

Let’s see… I’m soaking wet… I think rolling in sand is a great idea!
Let’s go for a little walk to dry off

After a wonderful afternoon at the beach, I was antsy to figure out where we were going to spend the night. Did I mention that we had no reservations? Several phone calls later, it was clear that everything was completely booked. A helpful grocery store clerk gave us a tip about a spot on the side of the road that they’d seen RV’s park overnight. Guess that’ll have to do…

Stay tuned for Mac Kerricher State Park – Day #2…
