Point Reyes Lighthouse – Point Reyes National Seashore – California

2/9/20

Day #2 of our weekend getaway to Point Reyes National Seashore took us to Ken Patrick Visitors Center where we purchased tickets ($7 per adult & kids were free) for the shuttle bus. At this time, the only way to access the lighthouse was by shuttle.

Once the shuttle dropped us off at the lighthouse parking lot we had a paved 1/4 mile walk to the lighthouse visitor center.

The Park Rangers had warned us that the lighthouse staircase would probably be closed due to high winds. But when we got there, they were open! I feel like every opportunity you get to climb stairs to something, especially if they are numbered, you should take it! So I stood in front of this caution sign, and ushered my family down the 308 stairs. Come on everyone, this is gonna be great!

We made it down all 308 stairs and back up again! It was one of the highlights from the weekend. Unfortunately, we just barely missed the shuttle when we got back to the parking lot, so we waited 20 minutes for the next bus.

I can hardly wait for the next shuttle bus stop, Elephant Seal Overlook. To be continued…

P.S. Our favorite picture books about lighthouses are:

💡 We hope this post inspires you to visit a lighthouse if you can, and take the stairs whenever possible!

🥾 Have you visited a point of interest that you had to reach by climbing a long staircase? How many stairs did you climb?
