Bear Valley Visitor Center – Point Reyes National Seashore – California

2/8/20

Our first stop on our weekend getaway to the coast was Bear Valley visitor’s Center. It was conveniently located only 5 minutes from the campground we stayed at. I hadn’t done much activity planning before we left home and the staff at National Park Visitor Centers have always been exceptionally helpful when we inquire about how to spend our time. This was no exception. The first tip they gave us, was to head to the beach ASAP if we wanted to go at all. There was a high wind advisory all weekend, and by the time we had started our day the wind was already picking up. I couldn’t resist snapping some photos of the amazing artwork on display by Tess Felix before we headed out. The portrait sculptures pictured below are made from plastic debris. Be sure to zoom in and see the interesting garbage used in this incredible art. Always remember to help keep our oceans clean!

I’ll also take this opportunity to tell you about a company that is cleaning trash out of our oceans, 4ocean. When you purchase a bracelet for $20 you help remove 1 pound of plastic from our oceans. The bracelets are adjustable to fit anyone and they make a great gift. It feels good to do something good for our planet!

Next stop, Limantour beach…

    1. It’s really great artwork. The artist has a sense of humor by making portraits of the “people” who created the garbage problem. It sheds light on a serious problem in a way that is relatable. Good stuff!
